Jane
and Katharine Edwards are sisters who make
                                  vibrant colourful
fused glass. Their wall pieces, bowls and plates
are fired in a kiln to around 800°C and then
slumped in another firing in ceramic moulds.

From their respective backgrounds in ceramics
and painting, their work combines influences
                                    of landscape,
memories of travels and painters such as Terry
                                Frost and Howard Hodgkins.

Bowls tend to evolve intuitively into a series
of work, some based on reflections within water
or emotional responses to colour and particular
details observed in nature. Some of their work
uses inclusions of foils and copper wire.

The sisters share a studio on a farm in Hertfordshire
under huge skies, large fields, an area rich
in Roman archaeology and these elements also
                                seep
                                into their work.
